Who We Are
One doesn’t have to search hard to be able marveling at nature’s many colors. Her waters, bright turquoise from glaciers, and tannin-dyed shades of brown. The soil, in shades ranging from black and red, rich in nature’s nutrients. Alpine meadows, produce a kaleidoscope-like eruption of blooms each spring. In autumn, the mighty oak tree’s leaves cascade through the rainbow’s spectrum in preparation for winter.
However, those that are seen enjoying nature are often portrayed as having a single shade. Individuals identifying as BIPOC are vastly underrepresented in outdoor spaces.
Nature’s beauty encompasses many shades. So too do those who enjoy Nature. Despite prevailing perceptions, all humans, regardless of shade, race, color, or ethnicity, can be included in the order of nature’s revelers.
Shades of the Outdoors will change the narrative.
By amplifying BIPOC experiences, establishing a supportive community, and continuing to empower BIPOC to reengage with the outdoors, we will write stories that change public perception.
We out here.
We been here.
Let’s form a community and go outside together!
